Got questions? I might have an answer right here.

Q: I need strings (or amps, guitars, straps, picks, etc). Can I come buy some from you?
A: Nope. I don't do retail anymore. I recommend our awesome local shops: McKenzie River Music, Buy & Sell Music Center, Beacock Music, and Gopher's Music. They'll have whatever you need!

Q: What are your hours?
A: I operate by appointment only. Google is still out of touch in this regard, and doesn't let businesses show this.

Q: Why do you swear/curse? Isn't that unprofessional?
A: That's just how I speak. Some people are turned off by it, some people aren't. My work speaks more effectively than my words, though, and that's professional enough for me!

Q: Will this affect my tone, and how? What are the intricacies of tone?
A: Here's one of the conversations I don't like to engage in. Sure, it might affect your tone! I can't hear the difference between a .047 Emerson and a .047 orange drop. That doesn't mean there's no difference. I'll put in whichever one you prefer.

Q: Can I come check out your shop?
A: I don't do shop tours, because you'd be underwhelmed. Trust me. It's literally just a big box with guitars and tools inside.
If you need a a repair, you can schedule an appointment.

Q: What's your favorite guitar?
A: I have no idea. I have crushes on lots of guitars. Guitars are awesome. As someone who focuses on repair, the guitar I respect the most is the Telecaster. Always will be. They're indestructible!
To see my favorite modern guitar builders, check out Schorr Guitars, Millimetric Instruments, Novo Guitars, Tao Guitars, Dion Guitars, Thorell Guitars, and M-Tone Guitars.

Q: I've spent a lot of time on internet forums, and...
A: I will not go on this journey! It is too dangerous, and it is too time-consuming.
Please keep in mind that most people on the internet forums are not repair people. Some of them have tinkered on their own guitars, or their neighbors' guitars. These aren't people you should take advice from, in my opinion. But that's just my opinion!

Q: Tube amp or solid state?
A: Hell yeah! Both!

Q: Do you work on amps/pedals/microphones/interfaces/mixers/stereos?
A: Nope. If you need amp repair though, Mike at Twisted Wires is your guy!

Q: Can I schedule an appointment outside of the available time slots?
A: If it is an emergency, like a technical issue before your concert, (which COVID-19 has effectively eliminated), I do offer a rush rate, which is double my normal hourly rate.

Q: Can I schedule an appointment without submitting my card info?
A: The short answer is no. Here's why: Unfortunately, at the same time my work volume increased, my no-call/no-shows and same-day cancellations increased. I now require everyone to submit a card when scheduling a repair appointment. I charge for no-shows. I don't bend on this, even for friends, because that's not fair to others. I generally clean my bench off 10 minutes before an appointment. If I wait 20 minutes past the scheduled time, I've just lost 30 minutes of time I could have spent finishing up someone's favorite guitar. Let's be respectful of each other.

Q: How much will it cost to fix my guitar?
A: Without seeing your guitar, I cannot tell you. I avoid throwing out numbers on the phone at all costs, but I will cite my Repair page for standard rates.

Q: You charge THAT MUCH to do THAT?
A: Yep. I won't argue about my rates, because I'll never change someone's mind. I went to lutherie school, completed a 2.5 year apprenticeship, and have repaired thousands of instruments during the past decade.
I treat my occupation as a skilled trade, not a hobby.
I've dedicated my life to this.

What my clients are saying:

"Nate is a great guitar tech. He has set up hundreds of guitars for us, and has a keen eye for all the details. The best tech in the Eugene area!" - Hank, via Google

"This is the most welcoming and helpful shop I've been to in town. I had them ream the bridge of my acoustic guitar for new bridge pins and they did a fantastic job at a very reasonable price. If you want to steer clear of the guitar snobs and chain stores, this is absolutely your place." - Jared, via Google

"Nate took care of my 78 RD like it was a newborn. Stainless steel refret, gutted and replaced electronics with one of the most professional wiring/wire management jobs i've ever seen. He's great and deserves all of your money." - Tyler, via Google
